Fernando Alonso believes Formula One is failing its best driver. "Max Verstappen is the best driver on the grid and this year he's going to finish fifth or sixth," Alonso told Mundo Deportivo. "I don't know if F1 is a bit unfair in that sense. But there's no need to waste time explaining to people who don't want to understand." It is a familiar theme for Alonso, who has spent much of his career arguing that machinery, not talent, decides championships. He has not won a race since 2013. Verstappen is currently seventh, 103 points off the championship lead, and still without a win in 2026.
